Early in 2009 Rochford District Council issued a consultation document relating to the whole scale redevelopment of Hockley Village Centre. This Hockey Area Action Plan (HAAP) was not very well publicised and we believe the vast majority of Hockey Residents remain unaware of its existence or content.
The deadline for submission of comment or objections to this plan was the 30th April 2009! Having gotten wind of the lack of publicity the plan had attracted and wishing to raise public awareness Ms Gabrielle Yeadell took it on herself to arranged a public meeting in a last minute attempt to raise the general profile. At the resulting meeting of around 400 residents it was agreed to setup an action committee in order to monitor and better represent Hockey Residents opinion.
Our group of volunteers are working hard to establish the committee and this web site is our initial attempt at providing a focus for related information and actions. To be clear what we are trying to achieve we have created the following statement of intent.
Campaign Mission Statement
“To increase Hockley residents’ awareness of the Hockey Area Action Plan – Issues and Options (“HAAP”), to engage them in understanding the proposals contained in the HAAP, to work with other local organizations in making Hockey residents’ opinions known to Rochford District Council in matters affecting their village and endeavoring that any change is for the good, considering the impact on the village, its residents, shopkeepers and infrastructure.”

| We don't need more houses in Hockley, we need things for the children and teenagers we have here to do and more facilities offered. Our houses are often targeted by bored teenagers. my husband is in business and we often use the business on Eldon way, it saves time for my husband and supports our current businesses. Affordable housing is only affordable for the first time buyers, they will soon be sold on for a profit and the houses are no longer 'affordable homes' no more schools places, dentists, doctors. The community will be lost. | |

| Development of Hockley would cause an increase in crime.More shops would cause more shoplifters and vehicle crime (lots parking needed too). More traffic and driving offences due to volume of visitor, causing more demand on police who already struggle. More housing would mean more schools needed, our schools are in very high demand and local residents still have problems enrolling their children locally. Healthcare would also need more of our public money...has any of this added expense been thought of. Hockley is a lovely village and has everything residents need without travelling miles. please leave the character and appeal of hockley alone!!! it's not broken so dont try to fix it! | |

| Hockley doesn't require the suggested changes and to build extra housing is ridiculous. The amount of extra traffic would cause concern and pollution. Spa roundabout works perfectly ok, a traffice lights system would create far more problems. | |

| We moved here from North London 4 years ago and I love it. I moved here for the village atmosphere, the good schools and was very attraced by the greenbelt area and open spaces. At present the roads seem to busy to carry any more traffic. Building over 100 homes in our small area of Hawkwell is just not feasible. We don't have the doctors, schools or roads to deal with this. The people who live in the area are friendly and helpful and I like the fact that there is a real community feel. Please don't change this lovely place. | |

| My family and relatives have lived in Hockley for over 100 years dating back to infer potters days, and in a small way have been key to developing Hockley's community over the years through Larks Gargage and the SPA pub. Hockley has changed over the years from what I remember as a child, but it still remains a desirable place to live which maintains demand on our area and there aren't many areas around like that. Lets improve the facilities and environment, but lets not turn Hockley in to somewhere none of us wish to live in any more. It remains an area off the beaten track that is a great place to live. | |

| We moved here over five years ago from Chadwell Heath where we had concerns for the environment our young children were growning up in. It was the best thing we ever did. We love (as do I visting friends and relatives) the village-like atmosphere and the LACK of big named shops. There is a real sense of community which is rare in this day and age. I like the fact that a visit to the shops means I meet loads of people I know. Sure, some of the village shops could do with a make-over but we dont need a "high street", we are not as large as Rayleigh town. It would be like putting a Starbucks in central Ethopia! If we want bigger named shops, most of us have cars to get us to neighbouring Tesco's, Rawreth Asda and other towns. Our excellent schools and GP services are oversubscribed already so we dont need more houses built to put even pressure on them. Call me selfish, but I dont want Hockley to change or get any bigger. | |

| My parents moved to Hockley when I was just eight years old, 15 years later myself and my husband have just bought a flat here and tried very hard to do so. We love the village so much and would not want it to become a town like Rayleigh in anyway. I would love to bring my children up in the villiage enviroment just how I was. We love this villiage just the way it is! | |

| We moved to hockley from rayleigh almost 5 years ago. Iwas born in rayleigh and the changes they made there with the extra housing and modernising of the town greatly impacted on our decision to move away. and hockley was the ideal place. a lovly village atmospher. with its quirkey little shops. Rayleigh now has a higher crime rate and i would hate to see hockley go the same way. hockley should stay the way it is now. but if ecc get their plans through. it will never be the same again. the industrial estate offers services and jobs to local people. and if moved that would be a large number of job oppertunities gone. we dont need no large shopping centre here. or more houses. our roads can bearly cope now. why demolish the history of hockley. keep it as it is. lord hanging field owns a lot of land redevelop that. let him have it on his door step. LEAVE OUR VILLAGE ALONE | |
